Billy Joe Norton, 69, of Moore, passed away Aug. 3, 2015. He was born Nov. 1, 1945, in Moore, to Clyde and Irene Norton. Billy heard his country’s call and joined the U.S. Army, where he received an honorable discharge for services rendered to his country. He was a Vietnam veteran who served as a paratrooper. Billy was a member of First Baptist Church of Moore. He worked as an auto mechanic most of his working career and was always willing to help others with their car troubles. Billy enjoyed coaching his children in football and baseball. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing tennis. Billy was a big OU football fan and had a great sense of humor. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Norton; two sons, Terry Norton and wife Rhonda and Jeremy Norton; one daughter, Heather Smith and husband Ken; five grandchildren, Vickie Garner, Elizabeth Hicks, Kaitelyn Hicks, Terrance Norton and Keagan Smith; 10 great-grandchildren, Jaymee and Brayden Brown, Demii and Bentley Hicks, Payslee Garner, Alyiah, Khloey, Addilyn, Brandon and Aria Hicks; one sister, Barbara Whited; and one brother, Ronnie Norton. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Tony Norton. Funeral services will be 11a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore. Interment to follow at Moore Cemetery in Moore. Services are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore. The American, Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015
