Carol's Story

Carol Jo was born July 14, 1944, to Madge Cohea Dombrowski and Casey Dombrowski in Frederick, OK. She was the oldest of five children and attended first grade through high school in Frederick graduating in 1962 after playing junior high and high school basketball. She went on to graduate from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha in 1966 with a degree in Business Administration and Journalism. While at Chickasha, she met her future husband, Donald Kitchen, who was stationed in the Army at Ft. Sill. They were married August 7, 1966, in Frederick and honeymooned in Canada where Don grew up. They shared 35 years of marriage before he passed away in 2001. The couple had one daughter, Kayla, wife of Colonel Kenny Lemons of Edmond and one son, Kiley Don Kitchen of Moore. Carol leaves behind five grandchildren: Kendsie Niederriter and her husband Stephen, Kameron, Keyanah, and Karson Lemons, and Kadia Kitchen. She also has four great grandchildren: Berkley, Kendsly, and Bradley Niederriter, and Andrixx Lemons to whom she always answered to as "Nana."
She leaves behind two sisters and two brothers: Linda Edgell of Midwest City, Peggy Porter of Oklahoma City, John Casey Dombrowski of Frederick, and Alan Dombrowski of Seattle and numerous nieces and nephews including: Franklin Edgell, Amy Janine Coleman, Rachel Robles, Michelle Wood, Caroline Dombrowski and Alex Dombrowski. Carol worked for the Social Security Administration, the Selective Service boards. She retired after 33 years at Tinker Air Force Base as a Computer Specialist/Analyst. Carol was a lifetime member of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in Frederick, Moore, and Midwest City. After a three and a half year battle with ovarian cancer, she passed away in her sleep in Edmond surrounded by her family on September 19. A special thank you to Dr. Misty Hsieh, her long-time primary care physician. Also a huge thank you goes out to Dr. Robert Mannel and staff at the Stephenson Cancer Center for all their love and support throughout her illness. Carol's memorial service is at John M.
