Carroll Arthur “C.A.” Matthesen, 94, of Moore, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, to rest in the arms of his Heavenly Father. He was born Nov. 2, 1919, east of Moore, to George and Carrie Matthesen, the fifth of nine children. In 1940, Carroll married his high school sweetheart, Ilene Stedman. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He started Savor-Rich Dairy in Moore in 1946 with eight dairy cows and, with years of hard work, built a successful business of 300 Holstein cows. Carroll won various awards for farming. He was proactive in politics and in helping neighbors annex into the City of Moore. He served on the school board in Moore for over 15 years, as well as the State School Board of Education and the Moore Chamber of Commerce. After retiring, he and Ilene traveled extensively around the world. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ilene Matthesen; six children, Doris Hastings, Larry Matthesen and wife Sharon, George Matthesen and wife Belinda, Virginia Matthesen-Chrisman and husband Steve, Kay Matthesen and Gale Earles and husband Mike; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Russell, Fred, Lynn, Ivan and Byron; sisters Frances Christine and Ina Don; and two grandchildren, Paula and Carrie. Carroll, also known as “Daddy” and “Papa,” was a kind and generous person. He loved pulling pranks and singing to his family in the mornings, and wild animals were occasionally welcomed guests in his home. He loved his family and friends above all, and made sure they knew it. He was a person who made those around him feel special and he will be greatly missed. Memorial services were Dec. 14 at First Baptist Church in Moore. Services are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore. Norman Transcript, Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013
