Daniel's Story

Daniel Owen "Buster" Simpson, 89, passed to Heaven on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the Norman Veterans Center, where he had been a resident these past two months. Daniel was considered the spiritual patriarch of his close-knit family and extended family. His gentle and selfless nature touched all who knew him. Daniel was born in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Walter Fred and Lola Mae (McGinnis) Simpson on June 1,1927. He graduated from Pauls Valley High School May 18, 1945. His enlistment papers for the U.S. Navy are dated that same day. He served in WWII on the U.S. Columbia and the USS Chilton. After receiving his honorable discharge, he immediately enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. On June 19, 1948, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann "Boots" (Craig) Simpson. At the time of her passing, on June 6, 2015, they had been married 67 years. Daniel began his 44-year career in the oil and gas industry that same year, 1948. At the time of his retirement in 1992, he was a field consultant for Jet Oil Company. Daniel is survived by his loving children, Barbara Sue Crawford of Moore, Karen Lou Pollet (Floyd) of Enid and Jimmy Simpson (Margaret) of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Tony Crawford of Oklahoma City, Levi Crawford of Norman, David Harris (Michelle) of Yukon, Angela Qamoos (Chris) of Edmond, Aubery Anderson (Krissy) of Hunter, Russell Anderson of Hunter, Jennifer Bessinger (Troy) of Tulsa and Jordan Simpson of Nashville; step-grandchildren, Kelly Pollet of Oklahoma City, Lindsey Crow (Nathan) of Enid, Steven Pollet (Tiffany) of Enid, and Colton Saunders, Cassidy Saunders and Garrett Saunders, all of Oklahoma City; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren. His quiet, humble, yet steadfast and determined spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, January 21, at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Paoli, Okla. Burial to follow at Paoli Cemetery.
