Text size

Darrell Wayne Blankenship, 61, of Moore, passed away Nov. 11, 2015. He was born Jan. 3, 1954, in Oklahoma City to George and Lenora Blankenship. Darrell gave 42 years of loyal service to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. There, he developed many wonderful relationships with co-workers and contractors alike. Darrell was a man of many talents and passions. He enjoyed woodworking, remodeling the house, going to the casino and generally just helping people. Darrell’s biggest passion was his family. He was also a big jokester. Darrell loved to torment the grandchildren and tell them stories to where they wouldn’t believe him and they would have to go and ask Grammy to make sure he was telling the truth. Darrell coached Chris in baseball and enjoyed going out in the yard and playing catch with Chris and Renee. He taught Bodie and Kim how to build things. Most of all, Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Darrell is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Blankenship of the home; son, Chris Blankenship and wife Michele; daughter, Renee Blankenship and Jason Ringwald of Moore; four grandchildren, Brittney Pearson, Bodie Blankenship, Kimberley Blankenship and Connor Ringwald, all of Moore; two sisters, Shirley Blankenship of Del City and Elsie Triplett and Donnie Hill of Choctaw; two brothers, Frank Blankenship of Choctaw and Troy Blankenship and wife Lisa of Newalla; mother-in-law, Nora Hutto of Moore; brother-in-law, Ronnie Buckmaster and wife Cindy of Elk City; and a host of numerous other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Jerry and Larry Blankenship; two brothers-in-law, Ronald Triplett and Robert Shield; nephew, Lyndell Hill; and father-in-law, Otha Buckmaster and Marie. Memorial services were Friday at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 2727 SW 119th, Oklahoma City. Services were under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.
