Edna's Story

Edna May Mitchell, 80, of Moore, passed away Jan. 30, 2015. She was born May 21, 1934, in Arkansas City, Kan., to Henry and Virginia (Burns) Hanson. Edna enjoyed crocheting and cooking, especially Southern foods. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Edna attended college in Arkansas City, Kan., and then at the Community College in Lincoln, Neb. She had been in banking most of her working career. Edna held various positions in the bank, from personnel to being a loan officer and bookkeeping. She enjoyed being retired from the Mertel Bank in Mertel, Neb., after serving in the banking industry for over 40 years. She had a cat named Gracey that was her pride and joy. Edna was a very kind, loving, independent person who was very family-oriented. Her first love was spending time with her family and friends. Edna is survived by one son, Neil Mitchell and wife, Sheryl, of Elmwood, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Virginia Hanson and one son, Phillip. Memorial services for Edna were Feb. 6 in the chapel of the John M. Ireland and Son Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore. Services were under the direction of the John M. Ireland and Son Funeral Home.
