Gilbert's Story

Text size

Gilbert Reginald Mumford, 78 of Moore, died April 28, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born March 21, 1937. A Chicago native, he settled in Oklahoma after his military career, serving honorably for 20-plus years in the Army and as a Marine and a member of the Special Forces. Gilbert was a highly decorated soldier who served two tours in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his acts of heroism during combat. He was valliant and courageous in death as he was in life. He is the patriarch of an extended family who all loved and honored him. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Angelina Mumford; his five children, Nora Kerbo, Gilbert R. Mumford, Susan Quivey, Melisa Prichard and Michael Mumford; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. His noble heart will be missed by all that knew him. Funeral services were under the direction of Moore Funeral and Cremation and were scheduled for Monday, May 4, at the Tinker Chapel, with burial at Ft. National Cemetery in Elgin.
