James “Jimmy” Howard Whitaker, 78, of Moore, passed away Feb. 19, 2014. He was born Sept. 12, 1935, to Sidney and Lucy Whitaker in Vernon, Texas. Jimmy was on the City Council from 1970 to 1976 and was re-elected from 1982 to 1984. He was a member of the Lions Club, Grey Eagle’s Retirement Club and the 137th Cam Squad. Jimmy graduated from Central High School in 1955. He heard his country’s call and served in the United States Air National Guard for 23 years. Jimmy loved to travel to Texas for the winter months. He liked working in his garden and playing pool. Jimmy never met a stranger. His first love was the Lord and his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Whitaker of 57 years; six children, David Whitaker and wife Sharon, Sidney Whitaker and wife Jacklyn, Howard Whitaker and wife Laura, Raymond Whitaker and wife Donna, Steven Whitaker and wife Lois and Laura Whitaker-Coots and husband Delphin; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Moore and husband Gene; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Hunter and wife Venita; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and 10 sisters. Services were Monday Feb. 24 at Southgate Baptist Church in Moore. Interment followed at Moore Cemetery in Moore.
