Karen Lee Belknap, of Moore, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at the age of 52. She was born April 11, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, to Willard Ray and Ruth Irene (Carter) Belknap. Karen graduated from Columbus West High School. She attended the Ohio State University College of Engineering, receiving an industrial systems degree. Karen was proud to be a Buckeye, traveling to all OSU games that she could and wearing her scarlet and gray. She also enjoyed the alumni band at West High. Some of her happiest times were playing in bands. Karen played for 22 years in the Tinker Flying High Band, playing 11 different instruments. She transposed the music for everyone in the band. They were like family to her. Karen worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an industrial systems engineer for many years. She loved her dog, Gidget. Karen will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen’s honor to OK – Tinker Flying High Band at tinkerband.org and OH – Columbus High Alumni Band at westhighalumni.com. Karen is survived by her mother, Ruth Belknap of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Shirley (Joe) Briggs, of Grovetown, Ga.; and her nieces, who were all engineers, and she was extremely proud of them, Lorelei Briggs of Ft. Worth, Texas, Elyse (Kevin) Benner of Solon, Ohio, and Gwynne Briggs, of Stuttgart, Germany. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard. A. Formal. Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept 30, at Glenwood United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Funeral arrangements were provided by John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore.
