Mary's Story

Mary Ella Nye, 84, of Moore, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. She was born May 10, 1931, in Lindsay. Mary was a minister for 30 years and it was her passion. Her primary ministry was to the homeless, prison ministry and the Jesus House. Mary was a day care owner and spent many years having a nursery at her home. She worked at nurseries with special needs children. Mary was a devoted military wife and mother to her children. She was dedicated and very loving and she created joy and peace in numerous people’s lives. Anyone who had a problem or a need, Mary was there. She was kind and gentle, yet tough. Mary was a devoted Christian and she loved all people. Looking in her eyes was like looking into the eyes of Jesus. Mary had four names, “Mom,” “Nana” or “Sister Mary” in her ministry, and when she was older and less active, she was “Mother Mary.” Her first love was her Lord and Savior and her family. Mary is survived by four children, Lendell Nye of Moore, Dee Ella Lackey and husband Kevin of Skiatook, Denise Bowen and husband Larry of Wichita, Kansas, and Tammie Wilkins and husband Gene of Blanchard; seven grandchildren, Boston Laughrey and husband Chad of Kearney, Nebraska, Kyle Bowen and wife, Christie, of Brooklyn, New York, Ella Ballard and husband Shannon of Dallas, Thomas Lackey and wife Katie of Sperry, Lisa Elrod and husband Bryon of Moore, Tony Wilkins and wife Angie of Tuttle and Juli Wilkins, of Yukon; 15 great-grandchildren and one on-the-way; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Esther Bomhak; her husband, A.W. Nye Jr.; and two brothers, Glen Bomhak and Loyd Bomhak. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s honor to Jesus House, 1335 W. Sheridan Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73106. Funeral services for Mary will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, 120 South Broadway, Moore. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at the Bradley Cemetery in Bradley. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home.
