Samuel Barton Russell, 78, of Norman, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, in Norman. Services were Dec. 26 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John L. Roberts officiating. Interment followed at Warren Cemetery in Norman. Mr. Russell was the son of George and Bertha Taylor Russell. He grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 8, 1951, until Dec. 6, 1954. He served on two aircraft carriers, the USS Badoeng Strait and the USS Oriskany. Samuel retired from Tinker Field after working there for 29 years. He married his wife, Doris, Jan. 26, 1956. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Milbert and Carroll, and two sisters, Doris Lee and Dovie. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; two sons, James and his wife, Julie of Moore, and Greg, of Oakland, Calif., and two granddaughters, Heather Trenary and Amberly Russell. He is also survived by five sisters and one brother, Helen Batman of Woodward, Minnie Batman of Wichita, Kan., Cotey Horn of Medford, Carolyn Bond of Augusta, Kan., Linda Russell of Burlington and Johnny Russell of Sulphur.
