Violet Mae Young
December 25, 1931 - January 28, 2018
Violet was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on December 25, 1931 to Sebern James Taylor and Irene Blackwood Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and husband Oscar young. During her working career Violet was a meat wrapper at Safeway, a licensed cosmetologist, and obtained a certificate as a medical nursing assistant. Violet built her reputation as a cosmetologist and was the owner/operator of three beauty salons in south OKC and one beauty salon in Midwest City. During this time, she also obtained a real estate license and worked with J.W. Mashburn Real Estate. After retirement, Violet became very active as a volunteer in the Moore, Oklahoma Community. She served at the Moore Medical Center, was on the board of the City of Moore Parks and Recreation where she was instrumental in promoting the dog park. After the May 3, 1999 tornado while serving as the Moore Chapter AARP President, she actively worked with the Cleveland County Sheriffs Department Triad Division to ensure that storm shelters were registered to assist first responders. Violet served AARP in many other volunteer positions such as information center assistant, team member for voter registration, volunteer/trainer specialist, and a 55 Alive Driver Safety instructor for 10 years. She was also active with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #13 where she served as President. Violet loved her friends and family deeply. She is survived by her children, Larry, Janice, and Stanley. Four grandchildren, Jennifer, Bill, Jacob, and Drew. Four great- grandchildren, Nathan, Amelia, Jackson, and Jameson. Two brothers, two sisters and her dog Sugar. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been provided by John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, OK.
